A mundane Monday night came buzzing into life with the launch of PengWine’s Magellan Premium 2013. Aptly named ‘A peek into the valley’, this members-only event held at the posh 1880 Club saw the exclusive unveiling of our unique limited-edition lightly oaked Chardonnay.
The Chardonnay grapes are especially luscious and potent during harvesting season and this resulted in a premium wine of exceptionally intense flavours. Delightfully citrusy with hints of pineapple and coconut, this Chardonnay-Sauvignon Blanc blend feels like a satisfying breeze on a hot summer’s day.
The palate is green-apple fresh with a balanced acidity. Medium-bodied, the golden-hued Magellan Premium lures with sophisticated smoky undertones and finishes with lingering notes of toffee and vanilla. Compared to our well-loved Magellan line, this premium edition tastes like a luxurious aged bordeaux white wine and is a sensory overload.
With only 100 cases being produced, the limited-edition Magellan is one of our proudest creations.
It is a perfect companion to a wide variety of savoury foods such as barbequed salmon, braised pork and cheese. On its own, it is equally delectable or even more so. This exclusive launch was befittingly attended by a beautiful crowd of privileged members of our Amigos Wine Club and of the prestigious 1880 Club.
Winemaker and CEO of PengWine, Chris Milliken, started the night with a short speech and elaborated on why this premium Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc blend is so special.

This blend has never been released for sale until today.
Guests were then pampered with our Chinstrap 2014 (silver Decanter award) and the Royal 2010 (silver Decanter award). Without a doubt, our limited-edition Magellan Premium was a crowd-pleaser. In fact, they loved it so much that bottles of it were ordered on the spot!
The launch ended on a high note with everyone in high spirits. All this could not have been possible without the support of our beloved Amigos members, the staff at 1880, our hardworking team and everyone else who attended our event.
